WHY UPGRADE?
New energy-efficient technologies are safer, use less power and are more affordable, thanks to incentives in the IRA. And they can help lower your utility bills, reducing overall energy costs. Ready to upgrade your home with a new heat pump, central air conditioner or solar panels? Locate a Trade Ally today.
Illuminating IRA Tax Incentives
In most cases, the IRA covers 30% of installation costs for energy-efficient home upgrades. The categories below provide additional information on available updates, as well as the requirements for each incentive.
Heating & Cooling Upgrades
Upgrading your home's HVAC system or water heater can result in big savings on your energy bill. That's because modern heating and cooling technologies like heat pumps are 2-3 times more efficient than traditional home heating solutions. Make the switch today and start saving.
Appliances & Transportation Upgrades
Newer home appliances offer substantial savings on your utility bills. For example, traditional water heaters consume around 20% of total household energy use, whereas energy-efficient models require 70% less energy to run. Look for the ENERGY STAR logo whenever you shop for appliances.
What about the car in your garage? In addition to emitting pollutants, internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles can only utilize about 12-30% of the energy in gasoline to power the wheels. On the other hand, electric vehicles can utilize 77% of electric energy to get you where you need to go. And they cost very little to charge when you plug in at home.
Energy-Efficiency Upgrades
Older homes can suffer from air leaks and fluctuating temperatures due to gaps around windows, doors or crawl spaces. Making these simple updates can improve indoor air quality, keep your home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter and reduce your energy costs by 10-20%. Consider implementing these energy-efficient upgrades today and start saving.
Energy Generation & Storage Upgrades
Offset your energy costs by generating power through systems like solar panels or wind turbines. If you generate more than your home needs, you can store it in a home battery backup system or earn money by selling it to OPPD through our community renewable program. Want to add solar panels to your home? Locate a Solar Customer-Owner Generation Trade Ally who can set up your new system.
