Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need the ENERGY STAR Unique ID, Manufacturer and the Model Number to apply?

No, the easiest way to match your ENERGY STAR Appliance to our system is to enter either the ENERGY STAR Unique ID which can found on the ENERGY STAR website or enter the Manufacturer and Model number as shown on the appliance.

Why do only refrigerators and freezers over 13.9 cubic feet qualify?

The energy and demand savings of the appliance are what OPPD uses to justify the rebate amounts being paid. If a refrigerator of freezer is under 13.9 cubic feet, the OPPD program considers the unit as compact and they do not produce enough savings to justify a rebate.

Why can I only buy appliances from the retailers shown on the list?

As Public Power, one of our goals with ENERGY STAR appliance rebates is to promote doing business locally with OPPD business customers. It’s our commitment to support those businesses. If we have missed an appliance store that is an OPPD customer, please let us know and we will reach out to them to see if they would like to be added.

Why doesn’t OPPD have rebates for all ENERGY STAR appliances?

OPPD targeted the most popular ENERGY STAR appliances for our program and will be continually reviewing the program to ensure we are meeting the needs of our customers. Based on popularity, the program could be expanded to include additional appliances.

Where do I find the manufacturer and model number for the appliance?

This information can be found in various places but the best source is the EnergyGuide label. The EnergyGuide label is required to be placed on all appliances by the manufacturers. The label provides information about energy consumption and shows you how much energy an appliance uses compared with similar models. Keep in mind the numbers are averages. Actual costs will differ somewhat depending on how you use them.

The label shows the following:
  1. Maker, model number, and size of the appliance.
  2. Estimated yearly operating cost (based on the national average cost of electricity), and the range of operating costs for similar models.
  3. The ENERGY STAR® logo indicates this model meets strict criteria for energy efficiency.
  4. Estimated yearly electricity consumption.
  5. Key features of the appliance and the similar models that make up the cost comparison range.

Why can I only get one rebate per each appliance? What if I have two refrigerators and replace them both?

Rebates are limited to one rebate per appliance to ensure all of our customers who would like to participate have the opportunity to.

Does a clothes washer and dryer combo unit qualify for both a clothes washer and clothes dryer rebate?

Yes. If you purchase a washer dryer combo unit, enter it on the application as a "clothes washer" twice and you will receive a rebate for $200.00.

Where do I find the serial number?

Serial numbers are required for warranty claims, repairs, and to claim rebates. Every appliance has a serial number supplied by the manufacturer. The serial number is located on a label that is typically affixed to the interior of the appliance where it will be protected from damage. The most common location is just inside the door. The serial number is also noted on each appliance's packaging. Click here to see sample locations.
